PSU Softball Takes Sixth Seed in MIAA Tournament

Updated:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State softball team is the No. 6 seed in the MIAA Softball Tournament which begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 26 at the Blue Valley Sports Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

The Gorillas will face No. 3 seed Fort Hays State in its first round game. The two teams just played each other in Hays this weekend, with the Tiger taking both games, 5-1 and 7-5.

Second round games will take place at 8 p.m. on Thursday in the double elimination tournament.

Pitt State is 29-26 on the season overall and finished conference play 11-9, which would have seeded them fourth, but the team's winning percentage was adjusted in accordance with the NCAA and MIAA nullification policy due to a self-reported in season eligibility violation.

This will be Pitt State's first trip to the MIAA Tournament since 2009. Only the top eight teams in the conference earn the right to play in the tournament. Emporia State (33-9) is the top team after finishing the regular season with a perfect 20-0 record. The other teams are as follows:

Missouri Western -- 18-2 (.900); 37-8
Fort Hays State --13-7 (.650); 29-17
Central Missouri -- 9-11 (.450); 25-28
Washburn -- 9-11 (.450); 18-22
Pittsburg State -- 11-9 (.435*); 29-26
Northwest Missouri -- 7-13 (.350); 19-29
Lincoln -- 6-14 (.300); 15-34
