St Mary's-Colgan student honored for creating preschool ag program

Updated:

A student from Weir, Kansas is awarded for his community service.  Saint Mary's-Colgan High School senior Garret Kays received a bronze medallion for being selected as a distinguished finalist in the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

Kays is recognized for creating and teaching a preschool agriculture education program to more than 1,500 preschoolers.

"It made me feel very honored, it wasn't until later that I could see the other programs that the other finalist had done to receive this award," says Kays.  "It amazed me that I was on the same level of those individuals because they showed initiative as well in benefiting their community and it was very impressive to see what they had done."
