Reading improvement earns Joplin student with autism a national honor

A South Middle School students gets national recognition for his improvement in reading.

Eighth grader Kaleb Hansen is one of just 12 in the nation to be a Scholastic Classic All Star in the Read 180 Program. He gets $1,200 and other prizes.

Kaleb, who has autism, went from a 2nd grade reading level to a 7th grade level using the 180 program.

More than 400 students were nominated for the honor Kaleb won.
