STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Pittsburg State senior Mannie DeCastro has been named a second-team All-American, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced today (May 16).

This is the second All-America honor for the 2012 MIAA Player of the Year, as she earned third team All-America honors from the NFCA as a freshman in 2009. She is the only two-time All-American in school history 

In her career, DeCastro has been a four-time All-MIAA selection including her Player of the Year honor this season and Freshman of the Year honors in 2009. She has set school records for single season and career home runs, singel season and career doubles and single season and career slugging percentage.

This season, DeCastro hit .439 with 42 runs scored, 55 RBI, 16 doubles, three triples and a school record 17 home runs. In the regular season, she led the MIAA in slugging percentage, RBI, home runs and total bases, while tying for the league lead in hits.

She ranks 15th in the country for home runs, and seventh in home runs per game (17 home runs in 45 games), as well as fifth in slugging percentage wiht a .904 on the year. 

DeCastro and Emporia State's Stephanie Goodwin were the only two MIAA players named to All-America teams. Goodwin was named a second team designated player.

DeCastro will continue to help the Gorillas next season as a student assistant coach as she works to finish her degree early/late childhood education. She is the daughter of Darrell and Chris King of Carl Junction, Mo.
