PSU Announces Three Finalists for Head Baseball Coach

PITTSBURG – Pittsburg State University has named three finalists for the Gorillas Head Baseball Coach position. One of these three candidates will replace Steve Bever, who retired following the 2012 season after leading the Gorillas for the past 22 years.
 
Matt Murray, Alan Ready and Daniel Esposito were selected from a pool of 116 prospective candidates. Below is a brief bio on each of the three finalists.
 
Each candidate will meet with campus faculty and staff, community members and media at 10:15 a.m. in the Overman Student Center Balkans room on Monday, May 21, Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23 Candidates are listed below in order of interviews.
 
Monday, May 21 – Matt Murray
Murray currently serves as an assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at Central Missouri. He has helped the Mules to the NCAA Division II College World Series three of the last four years. He spent the 2007 season as a volunteer assistant at Kansas State University after a six-year career as the head baseball coach for Oklahoma Class 5A Claremore High School, earning state titles in 2003 and 2005. Murray earned his bachelor's degree from Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla., where he was a member of the 1996 Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference Champion squad. He earned his master's in sports administration from Central Missouri.
 
Tuesday, May 22 – Alan Ready
Ready has spent the last five seasons as the assistant head baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Indianapolis. He has helped the Greyhounds to 35-plus win seasons in four of the last five seasons. From 2004 to 2007 Ready served as the head baseball coach for Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Ill., building the program from a team with no conference championships, to one that earned two conference titles in three seasons. Ready played for the Indianapolis Greyhounds, earning All-America honors in 2000 and Academic All-America Honors in 2001, while earning his bachelor's degree in computer information systems. He also earned his Master's of Business Administration from Indianapolis.
 
Wednesday, May 23 – Daniel Esposito
Esposito is currently the assistant coach for the Gorillas. He returned to Pittsburg just last summer after a four-year stint as the head coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Ore. Prior to his time in Oregon, Esposito served as an assistant coach at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan. from 2004-2007 and at Pittsburg State from 2001-03. Esposito became PSU's first Division II baseball All-American in 1997 when he captured the MIAA Triple Crown, leading the conference in batting average, home runs and RBIs. He was inducted into the PSU Hall of Fame in 2008. Esposito earned his bachelor's in English literature from Pittsburg State, as well as his Master's in physical education.
