Homes for Hounds - some 20 volunteers from southeast Kansas work to build shelter for local dogs as part of a service project.
Local organizations donated the building materials for the shelter. The event started last year as a student's school assignment.
The student realized there was a greater need for dog shelter in the area and wanted to make the project an annual event.
"I am a huge animal lover and ever since I was little I have noticed there are dogs out there that are tied to a tree or just don't have adequate shelter and it's just been important to me that they have a home," says event coordinator Christin Warlop.
Homes for Hounds partners with the Southeast Kansas Humane society to supply dog houses to those in need.
