Some government officials visit Southeast Kansas to promote using more energy resources.
U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins from Kansas and U.S. Representative Billy Long from Missouri toured operations at an oil well in Saint Paul, Kansas.
According to Jenkins' office, there are about two trillion barrels worth of underground oil in the United States. Oil and gas are produced in 89 of the 105 counties in Kansas.
Some lawmakers and oil well owners say there should be more of a push to invest in local energy sources.
"There's still a lot of money in the United States that's looking for investment," says Derek Morris of Morris Energy. "Those are companies that either through mutual funds, or through a person's retirement program. Everyone is involved in oil. Everyone is involved in the energy cycle, even if they realize it or don't realize it."
Congresswoman Jenkins and Congressman Long also visited Pittsburg for a roundtable discussion with energy producers.
