88 year old killed after lawnmower collides with car

An 88 year-old man is killed after colliding with a car while riding his lawnmower across a highway.

The Kansas Highway Patrol confirms the death in the crash log.

The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 400 at intersection 200 just south of Pittsburg.

The victim is John Schmidt of Weir.

His daughter-in-law says Schmidt used the lawn-mower to get his mail because he is unable to walk due to a spinal injury.

CORRECTION:  It was incorrectly reported earlier that Schmidt has been injured, then treated and released by the hospital.  We apologize to his family and friends for this mistake in this tragic story.
