MSSU Women's Basketball Inks Transfer from Alaska-Fairbanks

JOPLIN – Head Coach Maryann Mitts has announced another transfer singing today for the Missouri Southern Women's basketball team, Nicole Hartzog.

Hartzog comes to the Lions from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks where as a freshman she made 24 starts and played in all 28 games as the Nooks went 6-22 overall and 2-16 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  While starting at guard for UAF Hartzog averaged 11.2 points per game, to lead all freshmen in the GNAC and was second in the conference in steals per game with 2.6.  She was also fourth in free throw percentage shooting .819 from the charity stripe.  Hartzog scored in double figures in 18 of the 28 games, including a career high 26 points against Minot State which included a career best five three pointers.

At Beaverton (Oregon) High School Hartzog was a four year letter winner and team captain her senior year while being a McDonald's All-American nominee and a First Team All-Metro League performer.  She was a two time Best Defense Award winner, her sophomore and junior season, and led the team in steals with 5.2 per game during her senior campaign.  During high school she also played two years of varsity tennis and was a four year member of Team Concept of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

Hartzog is the daughter of Dan and Brenda Hartzog and will plan to major in Business while at Missouri Southern.  Her mother played basketball for the Pilots of NCAA D-I University of Portland and Nicole is the niece to 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist, WNBA and ABL All-Star, and Hall of Famer Cindy Brown.
