Girard Medical Center named a Level IV Trauma Center

State health officials have granted Girard Medical Center a status as a Level IV Trauma Center, the first in Southeast Kansas.

The designation is for rural hospitals that stabilize seriously injured patients and, if necessary, transfer them to a higher level trauma center.
