Surprise at the devastation - that's how one volunteer church group from Illinois describes coming into Joplin more than one year after last year's tornado.
About 25 volunteers are here from Danville, Illinois, which is about 90 miles west of Indianapolis.
They're helping to build a home on Byers Avenue.
"The kids learn a great deal from this," says church volunteer Don Hendricks. "They not only learn that there's a great need in the world, they also learn to do things like power tools, they learn team work, they learn camaraderie."
"Makes me not want to take things for granted and appreciate things while we have them because they could be lost at any time," says 15 year old volunteer Sam Schnelle.
The church group plans to stay in Joplin through Wednesday.
