
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern athletic department had 137 student-athletes earn at or above a 3.0 GPA this year, earning a spot on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, the league announced today.
To earn a spot on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative 3.00 GPA, as well as having at least two semesters of enrolment at their respective schools. The MSSU football team led all Southern teams with 31 student-athletes earning Academic Honor Roll honors.
Also announced today was the Scholar-Athlete Award and the Academic Excellence Award. To earn the Scholar-Athlete Award, a student-athlete must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, as well as earn All-MIAA status in their particular sport. The Lions had 14 student athletes earn that honor including: Jake Benton - m. track and field, Andrew Webster - m. track and field, Darion Boure - m. track and field, Jeff Fraley - m. track and field, Eric Schott - m. track and field, Michelle Dimza - soccer, Erin Rice - women's basketball, Nicole Green - w. track and field, Vanessa Langford - w. track and field, Rachel Schrader - w. track and field, Emily Weldin - w. track and field, Kenny Smith - football, Alex Wong - football and Brianna Fulkerson - softball.
The MIAA Academic Excellence Award goes to individuals that have maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA in at least two semesters at their respective schools. The Lions had 11 individuals earn this honor including: Benton, Webster, Taitum Mead - w. track and field, Shelby Newell - w. track and field, Emily Paullus - w. track and field, Jacoby Hymer - football, Cody Montee - football, Bart Starkey - football, Dimza, Beth Hammons - soccer, and Megan Jenisch - soccer.
