Cooling centers are welcoming seniors to come and cool off

Updated:

The Webb City Center is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, inviting people over the age of 60 but say nobody will be turned away who is younger.  The center is offering bingo and card games, and is offering food that can be purchased.

"They are easier to suffer from heat strokes and other heat illnesses," says Nicole Hoffman, Webb City Home Bound Meal Coordinator.  "This is a good place for them to socialize, get a drink and relax."

In 2011 the Department of Health and Senior Services reported 47 heat-related deaths in Missouri.
