The next election means changes for some Jasper County voters and poll workers.
Jasper County Clerk Bonnie Earl is planning to purchase iPads to use at polling stations. They would be loaded with information about voters in that precinct and are expected to speed up the voting process, possibly eliminating the need for extra workers.
But in a change from the past several elections, tornado victims need to make address changes and vote in the precinct where they live now, not where they intend to live after rebuilding.
"That has been over a year now so we're asking everyone to vote in the precinct in which they live now," says Earl. "We've been sending out confirmation letters. We send new voter ID cards to everyone. They really should vote in the precinct in which they live."
Earl says voters have been sent address confirmation letters. They can also go to either courthouse to make the change, but they will not be allowed to vote in their old precincts.
