Dry weather means you need to use even more caution with fireworks

Updated:

Dry weather has area fire departments reminding Four State residents to be very careful with fireworks this year.

In Joplin, fireworks are permitted only from this coming Sunday - July 1 - through the 4th, and they can only be shot off between noon and 11 p.m.

Firefighters say people should only set off fireworks on the ground with no nearby vegetation.

"If you're using fireworks in a grassy area they're probably going to cause a fire," says Deputy Chief Jim Perkins of the Joplin Fire Department.  "If any fires do occur, we urge the public to quickly notify 911 so we can get out there and take care of it before it gets out of hand."

For those looking for fireworks celebrations we have compiled a list of events throughout the Four States.  Events start as early as Saturday June 30.
