5 year old dead following fire in McDonald County

A five year old girl is dead following an apartment fire in McDonald County on Monday evening.

The call came in at 7:35 p.m.  Noel Fire Department and at least seven other fire departments responded to the fire on Highway 59, just north of the Arkansas state line.

On arrival, emergency crews were told a five year old girl was still inside the building, but attempts to rescue the girl were unsuccessful.

The girl's father was taken to a Springfield hospital for serious burn injuries.

After about an hour and half the fire was under control.

Once the fire was extinguished, the girl's body was found.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal's office and the McDonald County Sheriff's Office are investigating the fire and girl's death.

The names of the girl and her father have yet to be released.
