The Jasper County Commission voted today to accept a $578,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
The funds will allow the Spring River Watershed Coalition to implement what are called "best management practices" aimed at improving the water quality in Spring River near Carthage.
This section of the river is listed as "impaired" by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources due to high amounts of E. coli in the river.
The funds originated from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
