Crawford County firefighters warn of fire risk with high winds and the dry conditions.
A field off of the intersection U.S. 400 and 190th Street caught fire late this morning spread due to the high winds.
A farmer tells officials he had finished cutting the field and was letting it sit to bail.
Fire officials say the cause is undetermined.
Baker Township Assistant Fire Chief Mike Gordon says people need to be careful with heat producing items during the dry period.
"Something had ignited it, whether that be something from the roadway, which we would think may have been the case, but it's really hard to determine at this point," says Gordon. "It was being carried in the direction of the wind, away from the roadway. So it likely started up by the roadway somewhere."
Firefighters are making sure they are prepared this holiday weekend as the rain has held off for some time and wind factors are still in play.
