Power outage strikes Southeast Kansas

Updated:

Several hundred residents woke up this morning facing the fear of a very hot day when they had no power.

Heartland Rural Electric Coop officials say a piece of equipment failed at the Cherokee metering point, which then knocked out a breaker belonging to Westar Electric.

The outage effected Westar customers in Cherokee and Heartland customers around Weir.

The problem was isolated and repairs were made putting customers back on line within a couple of hours.
