Sparks from towed vehicle ignites brush fires west of Joplin

Updated:

Sparks from a vehicle being towed ignite 10 small brush fires near Carl Junction.

The fires occurred along Fountain Road between Black Cat Road & Peace Church.

Officials say a vehicle was being towed and was dragging along the road and the sparks ignited the brush along the side of the road in 10 different locations within a one mile radius.

The Carl Junction Fire Department was called out to the scene to put out the fires.

"Everyone be really careful and don't start any outdoor fires if they can help it," says Carl Junction Fire Chief Bill Dunn.  "There's no reason to be out burning in this kind of weather at all."
