Fifteen vendors lined the park on Route 66 in Carterville, Missouri for an inaugural event, Junk in the Trunk, selling various items such as clothes and home decor.
Vendors paid $3 to park their pick ups and that money plus donations will go toward new park additions.
Organizers say it's important to keep areas like this in good shape not only for the community but also for people who travel through.
"For us this park is something we wanted for our kids, we wanted for the people in the neighborhood to be able to come and have family reunions and get togethers," says event organizer Judy Martin. "We have a lot of people who go down Route 66 here on their motorcycles, in their cars, that are just traveling Route 66. We just wanted a place people can stop and rest."
The money raised will be used to purchase things like benches and to build new bathrooms.
