Charges filed against MSSU football player for fatal crash

Updated:

Last December two Missouri Southern football players were killed in a crash on Interstate 44.  Now, the driver of the vehicle they were riding in has been charged with their deaths.

Authorities say Jeremy Johnson, now 20, was intoxicated when his SUV collided with a tractor-trailer on I-44 between Joplin and Springfield in the early morning hours of December 2, 2011.

Johnson has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Diondre Johnson and Michael McCrommons were both killed in the crash.

Jeremy Johnson has also been charged with 2nd degree assault since a third passenger, Patrick Holt, was also injured in the crash.  Holt is a member of the MSSU golf team.

Jeremy Johnson was a freshman football player for MSSU.
