The Fort Scott National Historic Site has joined others in promoting a project called "Expression Freedom".
The idea is to encourage young people to express the meaning of freedom in creative ways.
The competition is open to students ages 13 to 18 in the categories of photography, poetry and short film.
Thousands of dollars worth of scholarships will be awarded.
