A scam involving a fake DEA officer, and Internet prescription drugs hits McDonald County.
A person posing as drug enforcement officer called a local Jane, Missouri resident claiming she owed them money.
The scammers claimed the woman had illegally purchased prescription pills online and would be taken to court if she did not pay a $1,700 fine. The scammers wanted to meet the woman at Walmart or even come to her home.
The victim called the McDonald County Sheriff's Department and did not hand over any money.
The sheriff's office say the victim did the right thing and that a DEA agent would never call your home.
"That's alarming to me on a lot of levels because this is not just mail something to somewhere and you never meet the person, they literally wanted to have a drop," says Detective Lorie Howard of the McDonald County Sheriff's Department.
The department has turned over the case to the real Drug Enforcement Agency in Saint Louis.
