There's another scam Missouri's Attorney General is warning residents about.
Scam artists are contacting Missourians by phone and mail, saying the person has won cash prizes in excess of $1 million dollars. Since the award is in excess of $1 million dollars the scam involves paying taxes to several government agencies.
The letter attributes government law - a law that doesn't even exist.
Webb City Police Chief Carl Francis says people should call the official source before paying anything to anyone at anytime.
"The latest round of scams, they're using fear as a factor in trying to get people to pay," says Chief Francis. "One of the other factors they'll often use is often greed."
Chief Francis says despite warnings from police some people routinely fall victim to scams.
