UCM tops men's, PSU on top in women's cross country polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The defending MIAA champion Central Missouri men have been selected by the coaches to win the league in the MIAA's preseason poll. Pittsburg State has also been chosen by the coaches on the women's side to defend their MIAA crown from just a season ago. The Gorilla women will also look to better the MIAA's top finish in the postseason last year as they came in 15th at the NCAA National Championship.

In the men's poll Missouri Southern took the second spot and took two of the first places votes coming in with 65 total points. Pittsburg State is picked to finish third on the men's side racking up 53 total points. Conference newcomer Nebraska-Kearney is slated for the fourth pace spot with 44 points while Northwest Missouri sets just a point back with 43 total points.

Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State are separated by just three points in the #6 and #7 spots respectively. Lindenwood holds the #8 spot in the first season as a member of the MIAA. Emporia State edged out Truman 15 points to 14 to earn the #9 overall spot.

In women's cross country Missouri Southern was named second just like their counterparts on the men's side scoring 107 points and taking two first place votes. Truman is #3 on the women's side with 92 points, one point ahead of Southwest Bapist with 91 points at #4 and two points ahead of Northwest Missouri who is #5 with 90 points.

Nebraska-Kearney will hold the sixth spot entering the season edging #7 Fort Hays State out by just a point. Central Missouri will begin the season with the #8 ranking while newcomer Central Oklahoma is projected to finish ninth in the league.

Fellow conference rookie Lindenwood is picked to finish #10 by a single point over #11 Emporia State. Lincoln, who won the MIAA track and field meet on the women's side, rounds out the cross country poll with a projected #12 finish.

The MIAA Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Northwest Missouri on October 20 in Maryville, Mo.
