Back to school time is upon us and it isn't just teachers preparing for the new year. Joplin bus drivers are also getting ready.
The Joplin School District has dropped three full routes from it's map this year, consolidating old ones to save time and mileage.
According to the school district elementary students may be dropped off three blocks away from their home and up to six blocks for high schoolers.
The district hopes the new route will cut back on the one million miles driven by bus drivers last school year.
"We eliminated some of those duplicate stops to spread them out a little farther because in making fewer stops our time gets better, which gets the kids to and from school quicker," says David Pettit of Joplin Schools.
In addition to new routes the bus drives spent the summer testing all 81 one of the district's buses to ensure they're ready to roll for the upcoming school year.
