Carthage man convicted of sexual exploitation of a child

A Carthage, Missouri man is convicted of sexual exploitation of a child today in a Springfield court.

Todd Christopher Smith, 41, was found guilty of using a minor to create pornography.

In September of last year Jasper County officers responded to Smith's home after a report that he had slapped a minor girl.

During the investigation officers found six videos on Smith's cell phone that showed him in sexual acts with the child victim.

Smith could get up to 35 years to life in prison without parole, which includes his prior convictions of sexual abuse and misconduct.
