"KNIFE AND FORK" BEEF BURGER
1½ pounds lean ground beef
¼ cup steak sauce
¼ cup finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 tablespoon margarine
1 package (8 oz) sliced mushrooms
1 medium onion, sliced
4 slices (1-inch thick) French bread
4 teaspoons margarine
¼ cup Bacon Cheese Spread*
Combine ground beef, steak sauce, ¼ cup finely chopped onion; shape into 4 patties. In large skillet saute mushrooms and onion slices; cooking until tender; stirring frequently; set aside. Grill beef patties over medium coals until no longer pink in center; about 10 minutes per side. Spread French bread slices with margarine and grill 3 to 5 minutes until lightly toasted.
To serve, place beef patty on toasted French bread; top with 1 tablespoon Bacon Cheese Spread and then add onion and mushroom topping. Serves 4.
BACON CHEESE SPREAD*
1 package (8 oz) soy cream cheese
¼ cup finely chopped chives
¼ cup finely chopped sweet red bell pepper
¼ cup crumbled cooked bacon
In small mixing bowl, blend cream cheese, chives, red bell pepper and bacon until combined. Use as spread for sandwiches. Makes about 1¾ cups.
