There could soon be a dog park in Joplin. Tonight the city council will take action on whether to approve sponsorship for the off leash dog park at Parr Hill Park.
If it's approved Mars Petcare will install about $20,000 worth of fencing and equipment at the park, as well as entry gates, sitting benches and signs. In return Mars would receive some promotional rights for the park.
The city's costs would be about $30,000 and would come from the proceeds of the Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax.
Neighbors have mixed feelings about the prospect of a dog park.
"It only takes that one dog to get loose and we've got five kiddos over here and we're not to excited for them to be that close to home," says Tiffiney Tackett.
"I'm defiantly for it, my dog, we don't have a fence so my dog would love to have somewhere to run around and burn off some energy," says Gregg Anderson.
If the dog park is established there will be separate areas for large and small dogs as well other equipment for the dog area.
