Minor injuries after children's roller coaster accident

Posted: Updated:

Cars from a children's roller coaster at Joplin's Route 66 Carousel Park go off the track, leaving four children with bumps and bruises.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety immediately began an investigation Saturday after they were contacted by the park.  The Department of Public Safety tells us the investigation is protocol when these types of events occur.

The park owners urged passengers on the ride to seek medical attention.

"Route 66 Carousel Park prides itself on family safety," owners Monica and James Burlingame say in a statement released Monday afternoon.  "In business and operating in Joplin since 2002, there have been no major injuries and we attribute this to an outstanding team and following safety procedures."

State officials say the ride passed its inspection on May 9 and a permit was issued.
