JOPLIN – The Missouri Southern men's basketball program has learned that Christian Salecich has lost an appeal with the NCAA and his final year of eligibility has been exhausted.
Southern had filed a waiver with the NCAA for Salecich in July of 2012 to try to get back his final year of eligibility. The school had learned that because Salecich had utilized a year post high school graduation to play organized basketball in Australia, he would not be allowed to compete in this fourth-year of collegiate competition.
That waiver was not granted by the NCAA and MSSU then filed an appeal of that decision in August. Southern learned this week that the appeal had been denied.
Salecich will stay on at the school and will assist with the men's basketball program this season as he finishes up his degree program with a May 2013 graduation slated.
