
Updated September 19, 2012 at 4:00 PM CST: First degree murder charges have been filed and a $1 million bond is set for Jennifer Bennett, 21.
That's according to Independence Police Chief Harry Smith.
Police say on Tuesday Martin Dunn, 49, was hit by a car driven by Bennett, 21. Dunn was taken to Mercy Hospital in Independence where he died.
Police say Bennett was also taken to the hospital, treated for a facial injury, and later released to the Montgomery County jail.
Authorities say Bennett and Dunn do have a child together, who is now in the custody of other family members.
Authorities confirm the incident was the result of a domestic altercation.
Posted September 18, 2012 at 10:06 PM CST: A man was hit by a car and killed Tuesday afternoon in Independence, Kansas.
Independence police responded to the incident at 16th and Laurel.
Police say Martin Dunn, 49, was hit by a car driven by Jennifer Bennett, 21.
Dunn was taken to Mercy Hospital in Independence where he died.
Police say Bennett was also taken to the hospital and later released to the Montgomery County jail.
We are being told charges are expected to be filed against Bennett.
