
PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State volleyball team snapped their four game losing streak, defeating Missouri Southern 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 at John Lance Arena Wednesday (September 19) evening.
The Gorillas used 43 team kills and a .265 hitting percentage on the night to take down the Lions. Missouri Southern managed 26 kills and a .099 hitting percentage.
Pitt State received nine kills from Paula Okrutna and Brooke Fay. Okrutna also recored a team high six servie aces and nine digs. She had only two hitting errors in the match for a match-high .368 hitting perecntage. Freshman Haylee Gregory had five kills in five attempts for a perfect hitting percentage. Becca Pearson led the Gorillas with 26 assists, while Hayley Hansford added nine. Nicole Rockhold led the Gorillas with 11 digs. Jordan Rehm added eight.
Callie Whetstone led the Lions with seven kills, Katie Politte helped the team with 11 digs.
The Gorillas will face another top 10 opponent in No. 5 Washburn in Topeka on Friday (Sept. 21) at 7 p.m., then will travel to Emporia State for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday.
