Missouri governor candidate visits Joplin area

Updated:

Missouri gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence has been meeting voters and shaking hands in Joplin today.

In addition to a stop at a Joplin law firm, the Republican candidate appeared at a Rotary Club meeting, toured Mercy Hospital's new site and temporary site, and plans a meet and greet this evening at Cunningham Park.

Spence has been a corporate executive in the Saint Louis area but has never held political office, so he says campaign strategy is new to him.

"There is no book on how to do this - your knowledge compounds over time and I caught up on the issues and what we need," says Spence.  "After visiting 114 counties and over 1,000 events, I feel jobs are the most important issues and that is something I do well."

Spence faces incumbent governor Jay Nixon in November.
