Fire Safety Week a reminder to prepare furnaces and fireplaces

It's Fire Safety Week in Missouri and this year's theme is focusing on escaping household and business fires.

The state fire marshal's office points out with the cold weather moving in, you may be firing up your furnace or fireplace for the first time.

Authorities say now is the time to check your batteries in your smoke detectors and to have an escape plan in case of a fire.

Officials also say Fall is a perfect time to review fire safety measures with your family as we prepare to use our furnaces and fireplaces again.
