Girard, KS Residents Mourn Lives of Fallen Fire Fighters

Updated:

In Girard, KS residents honor 80 fire fighters who's lives were lost over the past year. The Girard Fire Department has held the event every year since 1988, to honor fallen fire fighters across the United States. Representatives from several southeast Kansas fire departments were present, as well as many members of the public. The service included prayers, a flag salute and several speeches.

"It's just a way to honor the guys who died in the line of duty, we don't get all the recognition, the guys don't get the recognition they deserve for what they do, and this is just a great way to honor them throughout the country, I mean several other departments have this on different days, but this is how we do our small part" says Girard Fire Assistant Fire Chief Bob Sands.

After the memorial the public was welcomed to the Girard Fire Department for refreshments and cookies.
