International Route 66 Festival is coming to Joplin

Updated:

The Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Tuesday that the 2013 International Route 66 Festival will be held in Joplin on the first weekend in August.

It's an annual event for people to celebrate the history of Route 66.

Activities include vintage car shows, artists displays, military exhibitions and carnival rides.

"This is a big event, the Route 66 is a part of our heritage and it really connects us with the rest of Missouri as well as our friends in Oklahoma and Kansas and it's been part of our heritage for years," says Patrick Tuttle of the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau.  "The fact that we can reach out to the world with an international festival is just an amazing thing for us."

This is the first time that Missouri will host this international festival.
