Missouri residents have an opportunity to become commissioned officers in the Missouri Army National Guard through a new officer training program at Missouri Southern State University.
The Show Me Gold program will consist of classes, leadership laboratories, and physical condition training.
"It is not only providing an education, it is providing leadership skills to allow them to give back to the community and that's what Missouri Southern is about, is training students to be active citizens," says Darren Fullerton, the Vice President for Student Affairs at Missouri Southern.
Students will enroll in the university's regular academic programs, but will also take credit-bearing leadership courses offered through the Missouri Army National Guard.
"It's a very good partnership between the National Guard and Missouri Southern," says General Steve Danner of the Missouri National Guard. "I look forward to really good things coming out of the program."
The program is expected to enroll about 20 students every year.
