Via Christi Health hosts its annual Trauma Conference, just days after the Pittsburg hospital is named a Level 3 Trauma Center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.
Today's conference is designed to help participants better identify injuries and signs of deterioration.
Some of the topics discussed ranged from injury patterns in child abuse to identifying common drugs of abuse in Southeast Kansas.
One of the featured speakers was Dr. Paula Guinnip, an expert in thoracic trauma or serious chest injuries.
"I hope they walked away with, number one to identify the life threatening injuries that are often seen in the field, and the early phases and to treat them so the patients can live and also to understand the frailities of the elderly patient," says Dr. Guinnip.
