All members of the M.S.S.U. campus police force, are now sworn police officers.
Campus Police Chief Ken Kennedy says they used to have to call for an outside agency to assist them with things like car break in's and sexual assault cases, when the officers were just called campus security.
Now that the whole staff is trained, they will deal with the campus crimes first hand.
Kennedy says, the ranking from campus security to campus police steps up the training for the members to keep students safe.
"It's another step to make a more professional department on campus with physical fitness standards with an adjustment in the pay scale with rigorous testing requirements we feel that we have raise the standards of the department and I do think that will bring respect among the community campus community and also the community here in Joplin" says Chief Kennedy.
Chief Kennedy says they have four potential reserve police officers that will soon join the university police force.
