Ben Coomes, 49 of Frontenac, was northbound on South 200th Street west of Pittsburg at about 7:00 p.m. Monday when he lost control of his motorcycle.
The Crawford County Sheriff's Office says Coomes told authorities a small animal ran across the road and when he swerved to miss it he lost control of the motorcycle.
The sheriff's office says the roadway was also slick because a light rain had just taken place.
Coomes was taken to Via Christi Health in Pittsburg.
Via Christi Health confirms Coomes has been transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit.
Coomes is a physical education teacher with Southeast USD 247 in Cherokee, Kansas.
