Joplin woman pleads guilty to disaster fraud

A Joplin woman who illegally took a few grand from the government could end up with jail time and up to a $250,000 fine.

A Joplin woman pleads guilty to disaster fraud.

Amber Peters admitted she applied for federal disaster benefits by falsely claiming her home was damaged in last year's tornado.

Peters received nearly $3,600 from FEMA.

She now faces up to 30 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
