The state of Kansas has more than 1,600 openings for truck drivers.
The Kansas Department of Commerce says the high demand jobs are in the oil and gas industry.
The Director of the Driving School at Fort Scott Community College, Rob Minor, says there are about 250 participants each year between the schools in Kansas City and Fort Scott.
Minor says the partnership with Kansas Works has been beneficial to the school and those jobs need filled through testing at career sites to see if an applicant is suitable for the job.
"Truck driving is not necessarily a perfect fit for everyone, but Kansas Works in the Department of Commerce works very carefully and very intently with us to make sure it is a good fit for each individual," says Minor.
