Updated November 12, 2012: Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says Alvin Boyer has been captured.
Deputies tell us after hiding for a short time, Boyer gave himself up in the McClelland Park area southwest of Joplin.
Boyer is currently being held in Newton County jail awaiting extradition.
Posted October 26 ,2012: Authorities are searching for a Joplin man who escaped from a correctional center in McAlester, Oklahoma.
Alvin Boyer, 27, of Joplin, is serving prison sentences out of Ottawa County for drug and bail violations and is scheduled to be released in 2018.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
Officials from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center say they are looking for Boyer in both the Joplin and McAlester areas.
