Joplin Humane Society Recognizes Pit Bull Awareness Day

Updated:

Animal lovers head to the Joplin Humane Society for Pit Bull Awareness Day. The center collected donations with a pit bull kissing booth and a silent auction, proceeds go towards free spaying and neutering for pit bulls in need.

Store manager Lysa Buehler says pit bulls are stereotyped as a mean breed, but are actually friendly and that some cities in our area have specific no breed laws against them.

"I know locally Webb city has a breed ban against pit bulls, Carl junction has a breed ban against pit bulls and rottweiler, there are other local areas and they're kind of sporadic, you have to really check before you move into a town or even visit a town sometimes to see because its not always just pit bulls, some, any bully breed" says Buehler.

The shelter also offered half off adoptions today. Mars Pet Food company offered free bags of food.
