Bourbon County, Kansas families get some help with groceries from Walmart.
Beacon Incorporated received a $50,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation's state giving program to help provide food to Bourbon County residents in need of assistance.
Beacon officials say over 500 families in Bourbon County will receive food bags from the non-profit organization containing non-perishable food like bread and canned foods.
The grant allows Beacon to add fresh fruits and vegetables to the bag this year.
"This grant has been wonderful and it helps us to take care of people and we will be able to do more at the end of the year as well for the Christmas baskets for families," says Lynette Westhoff, president of the Beacon board.
Over the last three years Walmart has donated over 4.5 million pounds of food.
