Joplin fire under investigation

Updated:

Six trucks and 18 firefighters worked to extinguish flames at a Joplin home this morning.

A home for rent is no longer available after early morning flames erupt.

The fire broke out just after 5:30 in the 2500 block of South Iowa Street.

When crews arrived the empty house was filled with heavy smoke and flames.  It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Our reporter on the scene says there was a smell of gas in the air.

This morning investigators were checking area utilities and gas line connections.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
