
PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State Women's Basketball team is picked as the No. 3 team in the WBCA/USA Today Division II Top 25 Preseason Poll.
Pitt State is ranked third behind Ashland and Bentley, both teams also reached the Elite Eight with Ashland finishing as the national runner up. Ashland received 23 first place votes.
The Gorillas were 27-6 in 2011-12 and finished sixth in the final poll of the season after reaching the Elite Eight and losing to eventual national champion Shaw. Shaw has been tabbed No. 9 and receivied eight first place votes in the preseason poll.
Pitt State is one of three teams in the MIAA appearing in the poll. Washburn is ranked No. 17 and Emporia State, No. 19. Fort Hays State and Central Missouri are both receiving votes.
PSU opens the regular season on Friday, November 9 with the PItt State Classic agaisnt Southwest Minnesota State. Teh game tips off at 3 p.m.
