A Joplin girl receives the highest honor bestowed by the Girl Scouts of the USA for her life saving efforts during the Joplin tornado.

Alexis Prater was given the bronze cross in front of her peers at Camp Mintahama Girl Scout camp located south of Joplin.

The ceremony took place with one hundred and sixty of her friends in attendance, during a weekend celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts.
Prater won the award for trusting her gut instinct and saving her family in May 2011.
Alexis forced her family to leave their home and go to grandparents since they had a basement.  The Prater home was completely destroyed.
